“An affordable 3D Printer for amateurs and enthusiasts, from prototyping workshops to classrooms”. This is the briefest definition of WANHAO Duplicator i3 V2.1 3D Printer; a 3D printing machine covered by metal body and user-friendly interface which can create a satisfying experience for users.
Everything you need for a successful 3D print has been placed in i3. At the first round of its production, i3 was fully assembled but after a while it turned into 2 main parts: The Z Axis frame and the building platform. On this way, Packaging became stronger and simpler. Also it should be mentioned that the manufacturer has considered 8 screws with a hex wrench to help user assemble these two parts in just a few minutes. So you don’t need to be worried about the assembly operation!
WANHAO duplicator i3 V2.1 includes:
- An SD Card (with couple of early attached 3D files)
- 2 special spare sheets to use on build plate
- A scraper to remove printed parts from build plate
- A computer cable
- 3m of PLA filament in 1.75mm diameter
The engines of i3 have been unplugged to reduce risk of damage while shipping, so they need to be connected by user in the assembly operation. Also there is a filament spool holder in the box, which can be assembled with two provided bolts on the power supply case or on the main frame of the 3DPrinter.
User interface and Software
A bright two-colored LCD display on the power supply case which is controlled by a knob mounted right below it, can prepare the 3Dprinter for printing operation. Connection ports of this machine are USB and Micro SD slot that can transfer the printing information to the 3D Printer.
Basic applications like Simplify 3D and Cura(WANHAO Edition) are compatible with i3 to prepare the .gcode file for this. The user interface defined on display can warm-up or cool-down the print bed, calibrate the position of extruder, run the extruder fans, select 3D model from SD Card and etc. Actually, WANHAO will provide you a user manual that guides you through step by step from assembly to how to work with Cura.
WANHAO Duplicator i3 V2.1 has got maximum build volume of 200*200*180mm and since the whole footprint is 400*410*400mm, there will be no problem to place it in a small room. Just like many other 3D Printers, Duplicator i3 works with a single 0.4mm nozzle. The resolution of parts printed by this device is around 100 microns. Printing speed is 10 to 100 mm/s and satisfied its users with good quality of prototypes. It is notable that WANHAO has recommended users not using more than 65mm/s as operational printing speed. This is due to prevent potential damages to 3D Printer caused by excessive speed. High speed printing function of the extruder used in Duplicator i3 (MK10) will lead clogging the extruder.
MK10 has the capacity to increase its temperature up to 260 C˚, although most users will set it between 190 and 210 C˚ in the usual operating range for PLA and ABS-based filaments.
Print bed in standard size of 200*200mm, can be heated up to 100 C˚ which can prevent the printed parts from warping. It’s worth mentioning according to 3DBaz’s analysis, i3 print bed can be heated up to 110 C˚ which it is 10 C˚ more than what has been already mentioned. This build plate sits on four screws which is used to leveling. You can see the exact specifications of i3 V2.1 below:

Perhaps, one of the disadvantages of Duplicator i3 is the manual leveling. But when you take a look at its price again, everything will change. It means most of everyday users prefer doing it manually instead of paying more money to have it automatically leveled.
Furthermore, one of the most important issues of every 3DPrinter is noise emission while working! At the moment of writing this review with enough experience on different 3D Printers, I’ve never seen any politer than Duplicator i3. It’s really hushed while working and won’t bother you with extra noises. After all, you can see the Pros & Cons of this device below:
|Low price||Low speed of extruder|
|Easy set up|
|Strong body||Need some first assembly|
|Low noise||Manual Leveling for print bed|
WANHAO Duplicator i3 V2.1 can be one of the best choices in the market if you are looking for reliability, applicable build volume and reasonable price in different fields like industry, education and etc. In comparison to other competitors, i3 has got a bold point that says ‘’ Look at my price tag!’’
We hope i3’s review would be useful for you. Stay tuned with 3DBaz.com to get the best and newest.
